As a child I had a fierce debate with one of my brothers about the correct wording of the Act of Contrition. This is a prayer telling God that one deeply regrets getting it wrong.
The politically correct version begins: Oh my God I am heartily sorry for having offended thee.
Dick’s version reads: Oh my God, I am partly sorry for having offended thee.
It’s quite possibly a more accurate translation of the truth for most of us most of the time.
Ha! My daughter used to say, “I am *hardly* sorry for my sins.” Also often accurate. Thanks for this chuckle.

Thank you for letting me know you think this is funny, too. Every once in a while I worry (but not too hard) that these kind of stories might upset some people. Though I do think that if they do, they have long ago stopped reading this blog.

Between your “days like this” and our prayers from childhood certainly have brightened my days. Not that I find humor in you having a bad day more like relating to those kind of days.

Thank you for laughing. Your appreciating my humor doesn’t actually make me wish for more “days like this” but it does make getting through them easier. Maybe even with a smidgeon of enjoyment.

Useful info. Fortunate me I found your website accidentally, and I am stunned why this
twist of fate did not happened in advance! I bookmarked it.

Thank you. I’m very glad fate brought you here, and I hope you will continue to find it worthwhile to stop by.
I notice that your comment originates from Poland. It is the land of my mother who, apparently like you, was bi-lingual. Unfortunately, by the time I was old enough to appreciate what a wonderful opportunity learning to speak both English and Polish would be, it was too late. But I do value my Polish legacy – it’s a deeply important part of who I am.
