    • Well, yes, I agree. But on the other hand, as the psychologist Eric Erikson said, too much trust can be a bad thing. We need to learn to explore the unknown, which isn’t the same thing as total trust, which in some ways has to be earned. I’m thinking of my own naive over-trusting self during the first years after I’d been in the convent for nine years and was living in hippie New York City. It’s possible to say that people took advantage of me, but I gradually learned to be more discriminating of the “unknown”, which I can only say was a good thing as I learned to send out different signals which were less initially “trusting.”
      Does this make sense to you?
