The Other I

For better or worse?

Filed under: Just Stuff — theotheri @ 3:08 pm

One of the paradoxes of my life is that so often the worst things that have happened to me are also the best things.

I found out I had osteoporosis, but as a result I added regular exercise to my daily routine, and I have much more energy.  Not to mention stronger bones and less joint pain.

Leaving university teaching  before retirement age was one of the hardest things I ever did in my life.  But there is no way I’d be willing to trade off the experiences and learning that made possible.

Getting cataracts didn’t exactly feel like good news either.  I had no idea the surgery would result in close to 20-20 vision.  And it felt like it added ten years to my life.

Etc…

Isn’t life a surprise?

  1. I think a lot of it is down to attitude. You are not a moaner and that is the key thing. Even if you look at a lot of your blog posts – they deal with serious subjects but there is no moaning – there is a search for ways forward and common sense. No use crying over spilt milk and all that. it is a good thing to focus on the positive things, even when they resulted from negative things. Otherwise we would be miserable people.
I thank you for your realism and hope.
