I don’t take back anything I said in my last post about ordering a computer.
But it’s only fair to admit that the last paragraph of this apparent fiasco was 100% my fault. To wit:
When the monitor inexplicably stopped receiving a signal after I’d unplugged it and re-plugged it into the tower several hours later, I finally phoned technical service for help. He ran me through all the tricks I’d already tried, including asking me several times if the monitor was plugged into the correct outlet.
Yes, I replied, with all the certainty of ignorance.
We finally agreed that the computer should be returned to the factory, and a pick-up was arranged for yesterday. Fortunately – I say with retrospective gratitude – the delivery man failed to appear.
Today Peter remarked that it was strange that I’d not asked him for help before declaring the system defunct. Only to cover my bases – because I knew I knew what I was doing – I unpacked the computer, set it up again, and called Peter.
The monitor was plugged into the wrong port.
But I guess it’s a good day after all.
