The Other I

A very small problem you may have overlooked

Filed under: Just Stuff — theotheri @ 8:05 pm

Have you ever wondered why it is that to turn off a computer, you have to press the START button first?   Which, of course, you can’t do unless the computer already is started.

And just in case this doesn’t seem as counter-intuitive as it first sounds, you then have to press the button TURN OFF COMPUTER in order to press the RESTART button.

The 80% of computer users who run computers with Microsoft Windows will know what I’m talking about.  If you have always used an Apple, you are probably telling yourself that you knew you were right all along.

Okay, I’ll admit it.  I could not possibly write a computer program in a computer language.  Not even a very short teensy weensy eensy one.

I think I must be taking some reverse pleasure in the fact that people who speak computer languages might occasionally fluff the language of us ordinary mortals.  At least us ordinary ones who speak English.
